The upside to working late

Childfree employees may not appreciate the way their coworkers with kids breeze out of the offices at 5 each day, leaving them behind to pick up the slack, but there are advantages to those late nights, as this article from Australia highlights:
DESPITE employers becoming more flexible, government attention on childcare and ongoing equal opportunities for mums and dads, many Australians still believe those with no kids are more likely to be successful in their career.

According to a survey by career building and networking site Link Me 48 per cent of 681 people surveyed from across the country believe those that are childfree are more likely to have a better career.

I find this article very contrasting to the recent article in the New York Times (Mom's mad, and she's organized). It's slant was that mothers get the short stick in companies and are now fighting back, referring to an organization called Momrising.org.

I don't understand it. Companies bend over backwards, as your article mentions. Is this country so different from those as Australia, or Canada for example? Or is this just more whining from women who were led to believe that they could 'have it all', as in successful careers and children and now find out they can't?
If I chose not to have children to focus on my career, why the heck shouldn't I have an advantage?!?
