Childfree: the unsung heroes of the workplace

Times U.K. writer and enlightened parent writes in defense of the childfree office-worker, so often expected to work when others run off to have "family time":

... the childless (or childfree, whichever you prefer) are largely taken for granted. They are invariably the unsung heroes of the workplace, the troupers whose flexibility facilitates the smooth running of a business 365 days a year. Only thanks to them do the majority of parents get to block-book the wallplanner at key times of the year and return with grinning photos to display around the office. So how galling must it be to receive the message that your needs and lifestyle choices are somehow less valid than those of someone who happens to have successfully mated? Or that parents have the monopoly on fatigue? But if you protest, you risk being labelled as a bitter baby-hater.

Too many people just want to see things in black and white. They just want to steoreotype because they have nothing better to do. Then they complain when they drag thier kids to dance class and soccer. Did those children even want to do those activities, I wonder? I know there are lots of parents that practically force their kids to play sports or any activities because they think he/she will be the next LeBron James or Kelly Clarkson. Are all parents like this? No. Just a thought. I've even seen a few instances, namely when I worked at a pool as a lifeguard (worst job if you don't like children: you pretty much babysit 100 sugar-rushed kids, I know I'm going off topic) where I've seen this one guy yelling at his kid like a drill seargent acting like he was training her to be an Olympic swimmer. Again, are all parents like this? No! But it is ridiculous to be labeled anti-child when you work your ass off to keep the business running. And some of these parents act like they were forced to have kids. Umm... no. They didn't invent condoms and pills for our for no reason.
