I've liked the reviews of your book because you seem to acknowledge that one can actually love kids and still choose to remain childfree. My own reluctance to become a mother has been derailed every time I've met a new niece or nephew. I adore them and I treasure our times together. However, after an exhausting day of romping around, I'm usually ready to give them back to Mom & Dad, hop in my quiet, clean car, go home and read a book, then sleep a full, uninterrupted 8 hours. My husband is a military officer, and his career puts us in the company of socially conservative people, all of whom have children. While they are kind and accepting of us, I know they must wonder why anyone would choose to be childfree. Sometimes I wonder about that too, but then I go to the gym, or work on my book, or whatever it is I want to do, because I can. That freedom is its own answer.
Anne, I totally feel the same way. I was recently on vacation with my nephews and nieces. It was wonderful, but when they were sick or tired or cranky it was so wonderful to retreat to my quiet hotel room. It's hard to imagine giving that up.
